Purpose of AAMA Laboratory Accreditation
The AAMA accreditation program exists to ensure an adequate number of independent, accredited testing laboratories are available to support the AAMA certification program and the fenestration industry as a whole.
Acceptance into the program requires meeting multiple technical, administrative, and independence criteria.
Core Accreditation Requirements
While AAMA accreditation involves numerous detailed requirements, the following represent the four foundational criteria evaluated during the accreditation process:
- Laboratory Independence
The laboratory must attest that it, including its officers, directors, and employees, is not affiliated with the products being tested.
- Competent Responsible Personnel
The laboratory must demonstrate the technical competence of the individual in responsible charge of testing operations.
- Properly Calibrated Equipment
All equipment used for accredited testing must be correctly calibrated for applicable standards, including:
- ASTM E283
- ASTM E330
- ASTM E331
- ASTM E547
- Record Keeping and Documentation
The laboratory must maintain complete and accurate testing records, calibration logs, and procedural documentation.
These items represent only the basic requirements. Numerous additional criteria must be satisfied prior to achieving AAMA accreditation.
